Have you ever wondered what family Bible study time looks like in a pastor’s home? Maybe you imagine the kids sitting perfectly and listening…that’s not the real world.
In the real world kids…are kids, even in a pastor’s family. Tonight as we finished a devotion book that we have been working through all month, we had a 5 year old boy crab walking across the floor, a 2 year old screaming her head off, a 10 distracted by a puppy, and our 7 year old playing with her toes sitting on the coffee table (my phone flashed and they all looked at me).
Times like this frustrate us as parents. There are nights we wonder “Is this worth it?” But the answer is YES! The consistent Gospel focus within our house is worth the frustration of nights when it feels like no one is listening.
As we celebrate Jesus’s birth I’m reminded how God works through the little things. A little town, a little baby…a little hint of truth being heard and implanted into our kids hearts every day.
If you are frustrated that your kids just won’t behave when you try to bring faith into your home I want to encourage you tonight. Keep trying! Your kids will mess it up…but if you have a Gospel focus then you can’t help but remember how much we all mess up and the abundant grace Jesus gives us!
MERRY CHRISTMAS! Go love on your kids and turn off your phone. ๐
